Thank you to everyone that showed up last night!

Three takeaways from the meeting last night were:

(1) Important forms of logistical support would consist of meeting
space, co-working space and a "vetted" directory of resources
(2) We should meet again around the middle of January
(3) Between now and then, we should use the pdx11-knowledge list to
discuss the features such a directory of resources should have (where
"features" is construed pretty broadly)

The minutes of last night's meeting compiled from my notes follows. If
anyone wants something changed or added, please let me know ASAP.

Business:

We started off the meeting with a discussion of what is meant by
“logistical support.”  The general consensus appeared to be a list or
directory of “resources.” This led to a discussion of what kinds of
resources we would want to include in such a directory.

It appears “resources” would be:

·        Co-working spaces

·        Space to hold meetings (requirements: free Internet,
projector, minimum of 15 people, up to 40, easy access – doors not
locked)

·        Directory of User Groups

·        Help with organizing larger conferences (includes: sponsor
directory, checklist of organizing conferences, network of people with
experience organizing conferences, directory of event organizers)

·        Talent (both organizations looking for skilled people for
limited engagements and skilled people looking for limited engagements
– includes business people and technical people - maybe augmented by a
sort of “dating service”)

·        Incubators

Important that it be “one stop shopping” with some sort of “stamp of approval.”

There are questions about ongoing maintenance if such a directory did exist

The group thought that we should meet again around the middle of
January – in the meantime we (the list members) should enumerate the
features we’d like such a directory or clearinghouse to have (content,
organization, operation, etc.) using the mailing list to exchange
ideas.
